Mallory Reiser came up a spot short of qualifying for the state cross country meet at a WIAA Division 1 sectional on Saturday, Oct. 23, at Naga-Waukee Park in Hartland.

Reiser finished eighth overall with a time of 20 minutes, 02.9 seconds. The Stoughton junior placed sixth among individuals from non-qualifying state teams. Only the top five individuals from non-qualifying state teams advance to state.

Oregon junior Dasha Vorontsov finished first overall with a time of 19:00.4. Janesville Craig senior Rylee Coleman grabbed the final individual qualifier spot with a time of 19:52.2, good for seventh overall.

Stoughton placed sixth overall with 154 points. Oregon won the sectional with 64 points, followed by runner-up Sun Prairie’s 69.

Stoughton sophomore Sophia Nortwen finished 24th overall out of 66 runners with a time of 21:34.1. Freshman Emelia Hopper clocked in at 22:10.7 to take 37th. The Vikings’ score was rounded out by juniors Maddie Reott (22:22.1) and Jordan Packard (22:28.4).
