Junior Conner Brown carded a 73 to win the 72-player Portage Invitational on Friday, May 5, at the Portage Country Club.

The Stoughton boys golf team was coming off a fifth-place finish at a Badger East Conference mini-meet on Thursday, May 4, at Koshkonong Mounds Country Club in Fort Atkinson.

Portage Invitational

Brown helped the Vikings to third at the 13-team invitational with 332 strokes. Mount Horeb (319) beat out Kohler (325) for the team title. Verona finished fourth with 341 strokes. Brown’s 73 was four strokes better than Kohler senior Everett Schroeder – who earned runner-up honors with a 77.

Stoughton junior Sam Hjortland tied for fifth with a 79. Fellow junior Colin Quam carded an 85 to tie for 14th. Senior Jack Kicera rounded out the Stoughton four with a 95, good for a tie at 38th.

Junior Colton Vinson shot a 98 for the Vikings.

Badger East mini-meet

Stoughton finished in fifth with 339 strokes. Waunakee (302) edged Milton (307) for first. Quam led the Vikings with a 79, good for a tie at 10th. Hjortland tied for 16th with an 82. Kicera and Brown rounded out Stoughton by tying for 24th with 89s. Vinson fired a 99.

Waunakee junior KC Nickel won medalist honors with a 69. Milton junior Brett Wieland and Fort Atkinson sophomore Mason Burke tied for second with 73s.
