R Sommers obit

Robert Earle Sommers, age 77, joined our Heavenly Father on June 15, 2022. Robert was born on October 16, 1944, to William and Margaret Sommers in San Pedro, California. He moved to West Allis as a small child.

Robert received his formal education at Milton College where he met the love of his life Mary Jane Benson. After graduation he enlisted in the Air Force in 1966 in Laredo, TX. He returned home and married Mary Jane, June 17, 1967. After fulfilling his enlistment, they moved to Stoughton where they raised their 2 daughters.

Robert was employed by Uniroyal as a lab technician for most of his working life. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading and attending church services.

Robert is survived by his wife, Mary; 2 daughters Laura (Daniel) Callaway, Kathy (Garrett) Soderberg; 4 grandchildren, Benjamin Callaway, Elizabeth Callaway, Jonathan Callaway and Samuel Byrne; sister, Barbara (Larry) Gardner, brother-in-law Donald Benson, sister-in-law, Margo Benson; 1 nephew, Gary (Jenny) Gardner and 2 nieces, Cindy (Eric) Vanselow and Heidi (Matt) Tiberg; 2 great nieces, Nicole (Michael) Zastrow and Natasha (Dennis) Gahagan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father-in-law Bert Benson and mother-in-law Helen Benson, and brother-in-law David Benson.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday July 2, 2022, at GOOD SHEPHERD BY THE LAKE LUTHERAN CHURCH, 1860 US Hwy 51, Stoughton with Rev. Todd McVey presiding. A luncheon will follow the service at the church on Saturday. Burial will follow the luncheon at Cooksville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the service at the church on Saturday.
